Education
The quality of a child's education and capacity for learning and flourishing should be based on more than test scores. We need to increase the number of qualified and engaged teachers and
find ways of making the teaching profession more attractive to young people while also working to find ways of keeping excellent older teachers in the classroom. Smaller class sizes and assistance
for children with special needs would enrich the educational experience for all. And we must make college readiness a primary goal of our public schools while working to make college affordable to all families in the Commonwealth.
Health Care
Health care costs are the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States. We are paying more for health care coverage while getting less and less. As co-pays and deductibles are
on the rise people may delay preventative care and early treatment, resulting in more serious and costly health problems down the road. We must make it a priority to assure access to high quality
and affordable health care for all. Furthermore, we must invest aggressively in disease prevention through cost-effective public health interventions. And, finally, we must make Massachusetts a
leading competitor in research and biotech, preferably through home-grown talent educated and trained in our own schools and universities.
Equal Rights
We should never allow discrimination to be written into our state Constitution. Every person in the
Commonwealth should be treated equally in the eyes of the law regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, income or sexual orientation.
In Massachusetts, women make up 51% of the population, yet as two more women legislators leave the State House this year, less than 25% of our
senators and representatives will be women. I wholeheartedly endorse Sara Orozco for senator in the Norfolk, Bristol, Middlesex District because, in this position, Sara will continue helping people and she
will create policies that prevent problems.Kathleen M. Teahan Former State Representative - Whitman, Abington, East Bridgewater |
